Some uses for Medicinal Herbs!

Nettle-cleans and detoxifies, hayfever, asthma, itchy skin, slows bleeding. Tea is tonic, one of the richest plants.

Lemon Balm-treat colds, headaches, cramps, stomach pains, crushed leaves ease insect bites, used in teas.

Lemon basil-tea for nausea, dysentery, culinary use, teas will reduce fever.

Sacred basil -as above, and aids stomachache, rheumatism, refreshing clove-like flavor

Marshmallow-poultice once made from roots, gargle from leaves. Teas have a soothing effect on skin when applied.

Wild Bergamot-Leaves used for tea. Not often used medicinally now, but tea has a reputation for treating colds.

Gotu Kola-known as the arthritic plant, 2 leaves consumed a day is believed to ease arthritic pain.

Hyssop-for easing coughs, sore throat, alleviates respiratory problems. Believed to repel cabbage butterflies.

Spearmint-Tea relieves gas pains, and is a stimulant. Used often in cooking.

More Medicinal Herbs!

Sage-Sage tea reduces sweating, and relieves gas pains. Recent research indicates sage is a memory help.

Feverfew-reduces fevers, treats arthritis, nervousness, hysteria, low spirits, colds, indigestion and diarrhoea. Relieves migraines.

Wormwood-intestinal worms, may be narcotic, external antiseptic. Repels insects, makes a nice garden plant.

Lovage-proven to be effective in treating flatulence, and acts as breath deodoriser. Tea from the root as aduiretic.

Coriander-tea reduces flatulence, and griping. Helps with nervous tension, chewed to sweeten the breath after eating garlic.

Dogbane-reputed to repel dogs.

N/Peppermint- an Australian native peppermint with similar properties to peppermint.

Peppermint-tea for indigestion and headaches, external lotion for itchy skin.

Catnip-Chew leaves for tooth ache, tea used to sooth stomach upsets and colic. Mild sedative.

Pennyroyal-insect repellant, eases griping pains, and is believed to induce menstruation.

Yarrow-tea made from leaves and flowers will reduce fever, and is a mild tonic. Is an anti-inflammatory agent.

Calendula-Marigold. Helps digestion, detoxifies, cleanses, externally used for skin problems.

Ind. Ginseng-Ayurvedic tonic, calming, anti-stress, debility, sedative, high iron content, may inhibit cancer cells.

Chamomile-is a sedative, anti-inflammatory, treats arthritis, eases swellings, relieves cramps.

Pyrethrum-poisonous, tea used as an insecticide.

Selfheal-once used as a gargle, and to clean wounds. No longer used much medicinally.

Even more Medicinal Herbs!

Caraway-seeds reduce gas pains, and may have anti-spasmodic prperties.

Evening Primrose-the plant mucilage is used in cough medicine. External preparations sooth skin eruptions.

Rue-an antispasmodic, reputed to reduce coughing, and bringing on menstruation. Repels insects, especially ants.

Borage-contains mucilage, used for kidney ailments, sore throats, reduce fever, and poultices. Anti-inflammatory.

Aloe Vera-skin softening, used in cosmetics, used for minor wounds and burns, reputed to get rid of cold sores and warts.

Valerian-Powdered roots used as sedative, and is an antispasmodic.

Elecampane-soothes coughs and colds, stimulant, antiseptic properties.

Chickweed- treats irritated skin and itchiness, eczema and rheumatics.

Selfheal-antioxidant, astringent, used in Chinese medicine, may lower blood pressure, treats headaches.
