Herbs for Men!
Most men, especially young blokes, don’t care very much about their health, that is, until something goes wrong!
Too much beer and fatty foods, high stress working and living conditions, worry, all contribute to a looming health disaster, sooner or later, often sooner.
When a bloke is 20 he thinks he can live forever, when he gets to 40 he starts to think he may not, and when he gets to 60 he usually realises he has to watch his health just to get a few more years in.
A few years ago, a job was for life. Now a bloke can work in an office for 5 years, and during that time work for 6 or 7 different companies. He almost has to carry his resume around on diskette in his shirt pocket! Some men have decided to work from home with a computer, often with even more stress potential. So men’s health is an important issue.
The key to good health of course is diet. In fact it is the key to relieving many health problems in both men and women. So the first thing is to get onto healthy eating habits. That doesn’t necessarily mean just salads and pasta.
A good balanced diet can consist of a sensible balance of meat, grains, fruit and vegetables. We are not here to talk about diets though, we are here to talk about herbs for blokes! The good thing about herbal health for men is that the same herbs that are used for women’s health problems, can often be used for men’s.
Male menopause is obviously not as dramatic as it is for women. However, there is a time in every man's life when the hormones rebalance, when men can get moody, cranky, depressed, and out of sorts with their bodies.
Testosterone levels drop, estrogen levels become confused. Herbal treatments, along with diet and exercise, can help alleviate the symptoms, and help to balance the confused hormones and restore harmony to the mind, body, and spirit.
A good balancing tea or infusion can help both sexes. One good male one is Wild Yam,
Black Cohosh, Saw Palmetto, Damiana, Oat, Raspberry Leaf. Our own Home Herb and Garden
Balance tea
is a blend of Ginger, Lemon balm, Cinnamon quills, Cloves, Cardamon pods. Again, a good diet is important.
While many health issues like heart, kidney, and skin problems etc are relevant to both men and women, some matters are only male oriented. Mostly these include sexual problems such as impotence, or prostate matters.
In a recent survey by the American Urological Association, erection difficulties were reported by 19% of men in their 50s and 39% of men aged 60 and older. Eighty percent of cases result either from such physical conditions as hormonal imbalances, heart disease, diabetes, neurological disorders, nutritional or lifestyle issues. The balance of cases is attributed to stress, depression, anxiety or relationship problems.
Despite the open atmosphere created by the Viagra phenomenon, it’s been estimated that fewer than 10% of men are getting treatment. Although Viagra is the No. 1 prescription taken for erectile dysfunction, it has risks ranging from nosebleeds to death. Its use is discouraged for men who have high blood pressure or heart problems.
Herbal infusions that have been used for centuries for impotence include H avena sativa (also known as wild oats ), and muira puama, a South American herb favored by indigenous people in the Amazon. Horny-goat weed is an ancient Chinese aphrodisiac.
Prostate is a very important gland in the male system, and can be at the root of many different problems that men experience. Prostate problems can bring on impotence, cancer, and urinary troubles. Once again, diet and exercise are also important.
For benign prostate enlargement a combination of equal parts of Saw Palmetto, Ginseng, Sarsaparilla, and Chaparral is indicated. Prostititis is a painful infection of the prostate gland. A useful combination is equal parts of Saw Palmetto, Ginseng, Echinacea, Yarrow, Dandelion, Marshmallow, and Uva Ursi.
Cancer of the prostate is not necessarily an automatic death sentence. For those who want options other than surgery and chemotherapy, try the holistic approach. Prevention and treatment can be managed with a low fat, high fiber natural diet. Diet and exercise are very important when battling prostate cancer. This is one of the slowest growing forms of cancer, so there is time to take a natural approach to treatment, if it is caught early.
