Herbs to Relieve Headache Pains!

Headaches are a terrible thing to have to put up with. They are caused by many factors, and some people get them much worse than others do.

It's important to identify the causes of headaches. Herbal medicine can be a very helpful relief for head aches, although choosing the correct herbs can be awkward. For instance a headache caused by indigestion or constipation, can be eased by peppermint tea, however a migraine is different, and feverfew or another herb is more useful.

Diet is one issue that needs to be loked at, foods that contain tyramin have been implicated in causing headaches. Most preserved meats and sausages, many cheeses, and alcohol, contain tyramin.

With recurring headaches it is important to consult a professional medical practitioner, because they could be caused by eyestrain, a medical condition, or just plain tiredness.

Betony is an age old headache remedy. It is indicated for headaches and facial pain. Also being mildly sedative, it relieves stress and nervous tension. In combination with lime flowers it is effective against sinus headache and congestion. Betony may be taken alone or with yarrow. It is a mildly bitter tonic and stimulates the digestive system and the liver, all of which contributes to easing headache pain.

Evodia also helps ease headaches. It is an old Chinese herbal medicine, and is native to China and the Himalayas. A tea is made from the fruit. Studies in China show that Evodia is analgesic and reduces blood pressure. It should only be used under medical supervision.

Feverfew has an enormous reputation as a help to ease migraine headaches. At the first sign of a possible attack, 100 drops of tincture with water, or place 2 fresh leaves between a slice of bread and consume. Do not give to children under 12, and do not take in pregnancy.

Skullcap is another widely used migraine herb. Drink up to five cups of skullcap tea per day. Rosemary, take up to 4 cups of rosemary tea daily.

Rubbing a few drops of lavender essential oil on the temples is also helpful. Eucalyptus and peppermint oil mixed together have also been used.

For tension and sinus headaches, make a lime infusion and drink up to five cups a day. Vervain and valerian are also indicated for headches brought about by nervous exhaustion.

For alcoholic detoxification and headaches drink dandelion tea through the day, up to 4 cups.

Garlic is also reputed to help with headaches.

Finally one of the best and most sensible ways we have heard of to ward of headaches is to drink lots of water, every day, as well as consuming your favorite herbal tea. If your system is clean and detoxed, the chances of getting a headache are much reduced. Patrick
