About Your Medicinal Herb Diploma!About the Home Herb and Garden Diploma of Medicinal Herbs. Dec. 21, 1994; 272(23): 1851-7) Medical malpractice is the 3rd leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Malpractice is responsible for the deaths of 80,000 people annually, one every 7 minutes. This does not include iatrogenic injury. Public Citizen Magazine (A Ralph Nader Publication) 1994; May/June So it is no wonder that Worldwide, only an estimated 10 percent to 30 percent of human health care is delivered by conventional, bio-medically oriented practitioners. The remaining 70 percent to 90 percent ranges from self-care according to folk principles, to care given in an organized health care system based on an alternative tradition or practice. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people, 80 percent of the world population, presently use herbal medicine for some aspect of primary health care. More than 70 percent of Adults with Cancer use alternative therapies, and in a written survey of physicians, nurses, dentists and other health professionals on UF's faculty, 52 percent of the 764 respondents said they had tried an alternative treatment. An earlier survey found the same percentage of Florida residents had also done so. So, what does all this mean for you? Apart from being able to look after your own health, it means that there are many occupational and business opportunities for you to work in the field of herbal medicine!
