Using Natural Methods to Reduce Arthritic Pain!
A new 2005 Report by Access Economics has found that arthritis cost Australia more than $19 billion in 2004. It found arthritis affects 3.4 million Australians or 16.7 % of the workforce. One in 5 million Australians are affected by the disease.
$7 billion of the loss was in lost earnings through suffers having to take days off or take early retirement. The report suggested lifestyle factors were also to blame.
It went on to suggest obesity is a major contributor to arthritis, particularly of the legs. People can suffer from around 120 forms of arthritis, including the most common, rheumatoid and osteo, as well as gout, and Ross River fever.
Arthritis is probably the oldest known disease on Earth. Even the Egyptian mummies had arthritis, as did prehistoric man and the dinosaurs.
It is a very painful condition that can be relieved by herbal treatment. Generally arthritis is caused by wear and tear, or aging, but some joint problems such as gout are due to a buildup of waste products in the joints.
One of the first things an arthritic sufferer can do to relieve pain is to lose weight. The more excess weight you are carrying around, the harder your joints have to work. Apart from herbal teas and joint rubs, there are a few other tricks that may help as well.
Pace your daily work, don't try to rush around. Learn to relax and reduce stress, it will help you deal with the pain.
Try a muscle and joint rub at night before going to bed. That way the liniment will work overnight so you feel less pain in the morning.
Swim! If you haven't got a pool, go to the public swimming pool or the beach. Don't overdo it, just float around and enjoy.
Oil and warm water is known to be successful for some osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. Rub the parts affected, or soak in warm oil and water. Eucalyptus oil is popular.
A lack of copper in the diet sometimes leads to increased joint inflammation, and some people can't seem to be able to metabolise copper from their diet. Copper bracelets are worn on the wrist, so the copper bypasses the oral route, and enters the body through the skin. Those who wear copper bracelets swear by them.
If in extreme pain use ice against the joint, even a bag of frozen peas is okay. Apply for 15 minutes, then remove for 15 minutes. If the joint is hot, swollen or tender use a hot water bottle instead.
Some people have claimed relief by stepping up their intake of fish oil. Avoid tomatoes, potatoes, dairy products, eggplant, and all peppers except black pepper. All have been shown to aggravate arthritis and rheumatism.
Watch the drugs. There have been many problems with using arthritic drugs. Vioxx has been recalled after claims it caused thousands of heart attacks. Other drugs used to treat arthritis have had serious side effects. If you can avoid using them, do so.

Here at Home, Herb and Garden we market an excellent Arthritis Herbal Tea that I can only describe as quite amazing. 12 years ago I contracted a mosquito-born Ross River virus which left me with sore and aching legs, if I am on my feet for any length of time. I also have bad hip from an old injury that for years has given me problems, including a noticable limp.
Okay, for the last 4 months I have been drinking 4 cups a day of our Home, Herb and Garden Arthritic Herbal Tea, and my aching legs are aching no longer, and I know now I will probably not need to have a hip replacement later in life. This tea is truly amazing. Due to customs dificulties, we can only sell our teas in Australia, but if anyone overseas wants to make a brew themselves, the recipe is; equal parts of
celery seed, devils claw, nettle, silver birch leaf, and ginger. Only use one level
teaspoon per teapot, and you can get two teapots brewed from that amount of dried herbs.
